The Zeitschrift für Angewandte Geologie (ZAG) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that mainly published practical research results and case studies from the entire field of geological sciences in predominantly German, and after 2000 partly also in English. Key topics have included geological basic research, deposit research , oil - and gas geology , geochemistry , geophysics , hydrogeology , engineering geology , environment and economy and planning of geological exploration . The printed magazine was discontinued with the publication of the last issue in 2010. Initially published on a monthly basis, the frequency of publication was reduced from 1991 to quarterly, and most recently only to half-yearly. All issues since 1992 can be ordered online from the publisher's bookstore.

history

The Zeitschrift für Angewandte Geologie (ZAG) was founded in 1955 by the Central Geological Institute (ZGI) in the GDR on behalf of the Ministry of Geology. The magazine quickly developed into the publication medium (Akademie-Verlag Berlin) for application-oriented, geological research work in the GDR and neighboring countries in Eastern and Southeast Europe. In 1991 the publication changes from the ZGI to the Society for Environmental and Economic Geology mbH. From 1992 to 2010, the journal was continued by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and the geological state offices as part of the Geological Yearbook. A total of 4800 articles in 51 volumes, 449 issues and 2 special issues have been published since 1955.

editor

The founders of the magazine are Stammberger and Erich Lange . The latter was also the first editor-in-chief of the journal for applied geology. In 1961 Karl Schmidt, then director of the ZGI, took over the publication and kept it until 1977. Between 1978 and 1982, Hans Hetzer took over the post of editor-in-chief for a period of five years. This was replaced in 1983 by Bernd Kölbel , who headed the publication until 1991. In 1991 the publication changes from the ZGI to the Gesellschaft für Umwelt- und Wirtschaftsgeologie mbH Berlin, with Kölbel remaining editor-in-chief. As of 1992, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) issued it as part of the legal succession regulation. Brigitte Kuhns was the responsible editor until 2010.

digitalization

At the beginning of 2011, voluntary network users digitized the table of contents for all years between 1955 and 2010 and made it freely accessible online as a database.
