The Zeitschrift für Naturforschung (English: Journal for Nature Research ) is a scientific journal that has been published since 1946 and covers the fields of chemistry , physics and biology . The magazine was founded in 1946 at the institute of the Max Planck Society by Hans Friedrich-Freksa and Alfred Klemm together with Ludwig Waldmann . The magazine was originally published by the Dieterich'sche Verlagbuchhandlung . After a year, the journal was divided into two parts: one for physics ( journal for nature research A ) and one for chemistry and biology ( journal for nature research B ). In 1948 an independent publishing house, the publishing house for the journal for nature research, was founded in Tübingen. Since 1973, biology has also been dealt with in a separate section ( Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C ). All three parts use the same edition numbers as it is assumed that they have all been published since 1946. As one of the few exceptions among the scientific journals, the Zeitschrift für Naturforschung makes all articles freely available in its online archive two years after publication.

The journal for nature research has been published by De Gruyter-Verlag since 2015.
