Cell content

The cell content is a quality criterion for milk . It is given in cells per milliliter. In animals with inflammation of the udder, there are increased amounts of body cells in the milk, which are also known as milk cells .

Animals with healthy udders have a cell content of 20,000 to 50,000 cells per milliliter, in mastitis it is above 100,000 cells per milliliter. An increased cell content also increases the electrical conductivity of the milk. This makes it possible to recognize udder-sick animals in milking robots .
