Zenodo is an online storage service that can be used primarily for scientific data sets, but also for science- related software, publications, reports, presentations, videos, etc. The service is financed by the European Commission .

Zenodo integrates the GitHub repository service in order to make source texts stored there citable. Zenodo's own source code is also available on GitHub. The publications receive a citable DOI . There is an integration of ORCID , user statistics and various license options. The website is supported and updated by the OpenAIRE consortium and CERN .

The name Zenodo comes from Zenodotos of Ephesus , the first director of the great library of Alexandria , in which he laid the foundation for the largest ancient collection of scripts and which was the first library to use metadata .
