The bank Ċentrali ta 'Malta ( English Central Bank of Malta ; German  Central Bank of Malta ) is the central bank of Malta with headquarters in Valletta .

The central bank was established on April 17, 1968. The central bank has been part of the European System of Central Banks since 2008 . Until the introduction of the euro , the central bank had the Maltese monopoly on issuing banknotes in the Maltese lira .
