Central Institute for Information and Documentation

The Central Institute for Information and Documentation (ZIID) was the GDR's central institute for information science . It was founded on August 8, 1963 and was based in Berlin.

The ZIID was the facility for central planning, coordination and control of the scientific and technical Information system; Provided state organs and the Central Committee of the SED, combines, companies, research institutes, universities and colleges with information in the form of information services or special research; was initially subordinate to the State Planning Commission , then to the State Secretariat for Research and Technology or the Ministry of Science and Technology .

In 1968 the agreement in the field of scientific information was concluded between the German Library Association and the ZIID. The ZIID was subordinate to the Soviet WINITI .
