The ZeusMedienwelten are the amalgamation of all media educational projects of the Funke media group in North Rhine-Westphalia. These include Zeus - newspaper and school , ZeusKids , ZeusPower and ZeusAzubi . In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , the Neue Rhein / Ruhr-Zeitung , the Westfälische Rundschau , the Westfalenpost and the Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger are involved in the “Zeus” and “ZeusKids” projects . With around 80,000 children and young people per year, the FUNKE media group's newspaper projects are the largest in Germany. Teachers and their school classes can register for the projects.

Zeus - newspaper and school motivates students from grade 8 to get actively involved in journalism. The young reporters can research and write reports, reports and comments on their own topics themselves. ZeusKids

ZeusKids is a newspaper project for primary schools that was launched in 2005. During the biannual 14-day project time, the fourth graders approach their local daily newspaper - Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , Neue Rhein / Ruhr-Zeitung , Westfälische Rundschau , Westfalenpost or Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger - with a press pass, a newspaper page to do it yourself and the workbook "Meine Reporterschule" Body. The pupils browse for articles about their football club, trace the secrets of everyday editorial work and independently research the path from the event to the newspaper report. In addition, local editors are happy to come to the classes upon invitation.

Writing is done on "www.zeuskids.de" on the Internet: In the specially set up writing area, ZeusKids reporters can easily write their personal texts, which are published on the Internet after a brief check by employees of the Zeus team. ZeusPower

ZeusPower is the interactive portal for young people. Anyone who has enjoyed being a reporter at Zeus can continue to publish articles on all kinds of topics at "www.zeuspower.de". However, young people who have not yet participated in Zeus but would like to become journalistic can also take part.

Goals and direction

The ZeusMedienwelten projects aim to promote reading and writing skills in young people. The projects also strengthen media literacy , which is one of the key qualifications in today's society. This competence has become extremely important given the multitude of information offers that can be consumed unfiltered on the Internet, for example. Anyone who learns as a young person how news is created, how it is researched correctly and responsibly and how it is published seriously can choose critically and competently from the variety of information.

Awards

ZeusMedienwelten has been looking back on continuous development since 1997. They have become an integral part of the Funke media group's commitment to education . The ZeusMedienwelten received an award from UNESCO in May 2010 and again in 2013 for this commitment . This means that all media education projects of the FUNKE media group in North Rhine-Westphalia belong to the official projects of the UN Decade of ESD “Education for Sustainable Development”. The prerequisite for this was the long-term cooperation between Zeus and non-material partners such as local Agenda 21 initiatives and supra-regional non-profit organizations such as UNICEF .
