history

Johann Peter Wichelhoven

The newspaper was founded in 1842 by the printer Johann Peter Wichelhoven (* 1805, † 1885), although he did not get approval from the district government (there was already a daily newspaper with the Iserlohner Wochenpost ). But he circumvented the ban by buying up a newspaper from Hagen , the public gazette for the county of Limburg . The editor at that time (until 1857) was Pastor Friedrich Schuchard from Berchum . The newspaper was produced and printed in a back building at Mühlenstrasse 3 with a circulation of around 250 copies.

After the death of Friedrich Schuchard, Johann Peter Wichelhoven took over the editorial office in 1857. In 1875, Rudolf Wichelhoven (* 1839; † 1907), who had taken over the publishing house and the editorial staff of his father in 1873, renamed it Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger .

In 1883 the higher court in Berlin had to act. It was about the title of the newspaper as a circular sheet. On January 22nd, 1883, the Court of Appeal granted the publisher the right to publish its newspaper under the title Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger . The addition of the Iserlohner Zeitung was added in 1891 when the Wichelhoven Verlag bought the name rights for the Iserlohner Wochenpost . In 1893, production and sales were relocated to Mühlenstrasse 7 to 9. In 1927 the publishing house moved to the current building on Theodor-Heuss-Ring, which was built in the Bauhaus style in 1926/1927 on behalf of Walther Wichelhoven (* 1879; † 1955) according to plans by the Cologne architect Eisenhauer .

Publishing house and distribution area

Wichelhovenhaus in Iserlohn

The newspaper with the subtitle Hemersche Zeitung · Märkischer Landbote · Märkisches Volksblatt is published today by the newspaper publisher Iserlohn Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger und Zeitung (IKZ), Wichelhoven Verlags-GmbH & Co KG. The publishing house is the Wichelhovenhaus , which was built in 1927 and is now a listed building. The IKZ describes itself as the official proclamation organ of the city of Iserlohn. In addition to Iserlohn, Hemer and Iserlohn- Letmathe are the seat of local editorial offices .

The newspaper gets its coat from the Westfalenpost, which appears in Hagen and belongs to the Funke media group , formerly WAZ media group . So that this circumstance is not noticed, the common mantle only ever speaks of “our newspaper” or “this newspaper” and not of IKZ or WP. However, the Funke media group only has a minority stake in the IKZ. Conversely, the Westfälische Rundschau , which belongs to the Funke media group, appears in Iserlohn with the local section of the IKZ; in order not to make this too conspicuous, the text speaks of “the local newspaper”.

Edition

Like all regional daily newspapers, the IKZ has lost circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 4.9% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 6%. It is currently 14,794 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 92.7 percent.
