Zhang Daqing

Zhang Daqing ( Chinese  张大庆 , Pinyin Zhāng Dàqìng ; born October 23, 1969 near Kaifeng ) is a Chinese amateur astronomer from Henan Province .

Zhang is a co-discoverer of the periodic comet 153P / Ikeya-Zhang named after him and thus the first Chinese amateur astronomer after which a comet was named. Zhang builds telescopes himself and discovered the comet on February 1, 2002 using a telescope he built.
