Zhaozhou Congshen
Zhaozhou Congshen ( Chinese 趙州 從 諗 , Pinyin Zhàozhōu Cōngshěn , W.-G. Chao-chou Ts'ung-shen ; Japanese 趙州 従 諗 Jōshū Jūshin ; * 778 ; † 897 ) was a master of meditation Buddhism ( Chan ) in the Empire China .
His koans in Biyan Lu and Wumenguan are among the best known, including the one in which he is asked whether a dog has Buddha nature ( Mu ).
