The Zhongshan Football Stadium (臺北 中山 足球場) is a stadium in Taipei , the capital of Taiwan . It offers space for 20,000 spectators at football matches and up to 40,000 attendees at concerts. It was the home stadium of the country's national soccer team . The stadium is located in the Zhongshan district , hence the name.
In March 2007 the city government decided to temporarily close the stadium on July 1, 2008 in order to hold the International Garden and Horticulture Exhibition in the stadium in 2010 . The national football association protested vigorously, as the Zhongshan Stadium was the only stadium in Taiwan at the time that was approved by FIFA . If the stadium had been closed, the Taiwanese soccer team would not have been able to play any more international matches. The association managed to postpone the closure until November 2008.
Since then, the national soccer team of Taiwan has played its international matches in the Kaohsiung National Stadium or in the Taipei Municipal Stadium, which has since been renovated .
