The Zhouyuan site ( Chinese  周 原 遗址 , Pinyin Zhōuyuán yízhǐ , English Zhouyuan Site ) is an archaeological site of the pre-Zhou and early Western Zhou times in the Fufeng and Qishan counties at the foot of the Qi Shan in the Chinese province of Shaanxi . The place was the capital of the Zhou before they overthrew the Shang .

In 1977, over 17,000 inscribed turtle shells and oracle bones were discovered in an excavated storage cave , of which around 300 bore inscriptions.

The Zhouyuan site has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (2-50) since 1982 .
