The Cindrel Mountains , also cindrel mountains ( Romanian : Munţii Cibin or Munţii Cindrel) is located in southern Transylvania , west of the Fagaras Mountains . The German name refers to the river Zibin ( Cibin ), which rises in these mountains. The mountain range is part of the Southern Carpathians . The peaks reach heights of over two thousand meters above sea level.

The highest point of the Zibins Mountains is the 2245 meter high Vârful Cindrel .
