The historic Hundisburg brickworks is a manufacturing technical monument and dates from 1882. It is located in the Haldensleben district of Hundisburg in Saxony-Anhalt . The visitors are shown a fully functional brick factory , the system technology of which essentially corresponds to the state of 1903. It provides an insight into the manufacture of bricks and is unique in Germany in terms of its complexity.

A pair of storks regularly broods on the square chimney of the originally existing ring furnace, which was built in 1882 . The construction of a smaller, round chimney became necessary in 1920 when a steam engine was acquired to drive the brickwork technology. The zigzag oven built in 1938 is attached to it and is still in use. The other equipment and technology in the brickworks also corresponds to the state of the 1930s. The company produced in this way until 1990 and from then on became a unique technical monument.

The Hundisburg brickworks is a technology museum and at the same time a production facility for special bricks, especially for monument preservation purposes. Both the old processing plants and the well-preserved zigzag furnace are used for this. In a drying shed, a modern workshop for hand-painting production was set up, in which the long-term unemployed and people with disabilities find meaningful employment. Interested visitors, from schoolchildren to professional artists, can be creative in the ceramic workshop, among other things on several pottery wheels.

One of the special sights

  • the reconstruction of a kiln-like brick oven as it was used in the Middle Ages . Pre-dried items to be fired form the substance of the oven.
  • the narrow-gauge field railway between the clay pit and brickworks. It is one of around 500 narrow-gauge industrial railways that were still in operation at the end of the GDR.

  • The zigzag furnace has bricked up combustion chambers for the firing process

  • Diesel locomotive (Arnold Jung Lokomotivwerke) of the narrow-gauge railway in the earth unloading hall
