history

The establishment of the brickworks in 1870 at the same time as the opening of the Laaer Ostbahn with a station in the immediate vicinity of the brickworks established the town of Neubau-Kreuzstetten. The brick factory was taken over in 1884 by Martin Steingassner (1838–1917), who also owned the factories in Frättingsdorf, Stillfried and Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel. In the years 1889 and 1904 the brickworks was expanded to include two ring kilns ( Hoffmann's ring kilns ), in which up to 5 million bricks ("Steingassner bricks") were produced annually according to the patent of Friedrich Eduard Hoffmann (1818-1900). The sales opportunities were considerably improved by the connection to the railway network. Around 1920 200 people worked here, in 1975 only 22. The company was closed in 1975.
