The petite slim- pouch rat ( Marmosops parvidens ) is a species of marsupial that occurs in north-eastern South America north of the Amazon and east of the Rio Negro and Orinoco in the three guayanas , in the north of the Brazilian state of Pará and in Amapá.

description

The animals reach a head trunk length of about 9.5 cm, have a tail about 13.5 cm long and reach a weight of about 22 g. The color of the fur on the back and the head is red-brown, with the middle of the back being darker and the sides a little lighter. The hair on the back is 6 to 8 mm long. There are narrow dark circles around the eyes and the middle of the muzzle is slightly lighter than the rest of the head. The dark circles do not reach the base of the ears. The belly is whitish with a white stripe in the middle. The tops of the feet are white. The tail, about 150% of the length of the head, is dark on the top and light on the underside. Females have no pouch. The number of teats is seven or nine, three or four on each side and one in the middle.

Habitat and way of life

The petite slim-pouch rat occurs in tropical lowland rainforests up to heights of 500 meters. It is nocturnal and lives both on the ground and in shrubs and lianas up to heights of 1.8 meters above the ground. Almost nothing is known about their further way of life, diet and reproduction.
