The ornamental nectar bird or yellow-bellied nectar bird ( Cinnyris venustus (formerly Nectarinia venusta )) is a songbird from the genus Cinnyris in the family of nectar birds (Nectariniidae).

distribution and habitat

It is widespread in Equatorial Africa, south of the Sahara and lives primarily in open forest areas, but also as a cultural follower .

features

Adult males have a metallic-green shiny head, neck and throat, a brown and purple shimmering chest band and a yellow belly to the rump. The female, on the other hand, has a gray-brown upper side and a beige to slightly yellowish underside. The very narrow and slightly downward-curved beak with a tubular tongue, an adaptation to the intake of nectar food, is striking. He is about 10 cm tall and weighs 8 to 11 g.
