history

In the Middle Ages, the farm belonged to the Gleuel glory , which employed a helper as a tenant . At some point the courtyard was divided, so that official records, around 1831, counted two fireplaces and 16 residents. This number has not changed significantly in the following years. At the beginning of the 20th century the larger courtyard was moved down the slope to today's Hermülheimer Straße: Neu Zieskoven. As such, the court was listed on official and city maps for a long time. The miners' settlement was built around the courtyard and from there to Gleuel in the 1920s . The rest of the farm ensemble, Alt-Zieskoven , a horse boarding house at the end of Zieskovener Straße, is located on the edge of the former Gotteshülfe mine , which was charred by the Berrenrath open-cast mine around 1952 , today Otto-Maigler-See . Much of the arable land was lost to lignite mining. The area around the Otto-Maigler-See was mainly recultivated for forestry.
