Alstädten-Burbach is a district of Hürth in the Rhein-Erft district . The historically separate places Alstädten and Burbach have grown together in modern times and are now viewed as one place. Alstädten-Burbach has 3664 inhabitants (main residence, as of April 30, 2013).

History of Alstädten

Alstädten , located on the Villehang, is first mentioned in a document in 1185 . The Pescher Höfe were located nearby, and it can be assumed that the place emerged as a settlement of small farmers near these large farms. Under French rule, Alstädten and Knapsack belonged to the canton of Brühl , and since 1846 to the municipality of Hürth in the Hürth mayor. Of the Pescher courts was on the Pescher work broken down by the landowner Rolshofen in peasant style lignite and Klütten molded and dried. He received an official concession in 1824. The mine did not last long. After 1965 it was completely charred with the Theresia field up to the Knapsacker works. The road to (Alt-) Hürth was also dredged and the residents within the village were relocated to the foot of the Alstädter Berg.

History of Burbach

Stele von-Geyr-Ring Burbach

Burbach is mentioned for the first time in 1233 in the deed of foundation of the Burbach monastery , but is of course much older. The place is on the Villehang in the valley of the Burbach (or Bornbach, later Stotzheimer Bach), which operated three mills . The place was divided for a long time. The northern part belonged to the glory of Gleuel, the southern part to the Electoral Cologne Office of Lechenich . It was not until the French invaded in 1794 during the coalition wars that this situation ended. After the local reorganization under the French (1798), Burbach belonged to the canton of Brühl and Mairie , and from 1815 to the mayor's office of Hürth under the Prussians . Within this he formed his own community until 1845. In 1845 Burbach had 226 inhabitants. The place was assigned to school and church law Gleuel . Since 1846, Burbach with Sielsdorf and six smaller living spaces also belonged administratively to the municipality of Gleuel. Near the source of the brook was the Cistercian convent Marienbrunn, popularly called Kloster Burbach, which was founded in 1233 and which was dissolved during the secularization and of which individual buildings are still preserved. Today the Hürth swimming club has its headquarters here on Lake Otto Maigler .

Merger to form Hürth

In 1930, both places became districts of the large community since 1978 town of Hürth.

A church

When it became clear that Alstädter Straße to the church town (Alt-) Hürth with the associated houses should be excavated, in 1952 considerations began about a new church for both places. In 1954 a church building association was founded. In 1959 the foundation stone, a stone from Cologne Cathedral , was laid for the church building designed by Hans Pörkert , which was consecrated on September 25, 1960 by Knapsack dean Josef Krings. At the same time, the new parish was established with a document from the Archdiocese of Cologne dated July 1, 1959 with the signature of Josef Cardinal Frings . The area of the former monastery was also repared from Berrenrath. The complex also includes a parish library (1964) and a youth home / community center (1969). The organ was built by the Seifert workshop in Cologne . The tabernacle was formed from two millstones and donated by the Füngeling family from Burbach Abbey. The name of the church ( patronage ), St. Maria am Brunnen , and the parish was taken from the monastery. That traditions stick for a long time is evident from the fact that even after 50 years of membership in the new congregation, some Burbach residents still preferred to go to church in Gleuel. Since 1993 the parish has been united with Gleuel and Stotzheim to form a pastoral care area and since 2003 to form a parish association.

Grocery store 100 years

Despite the walking distance to the Hürth Park shopping center , the grocery store has been able to hold out at the beginning of Theresiastrasse. It is run by the owner Sophia Lochs, who turned 90 in 2013, and her daughter. In 2011 the shop celebrated its 100th anniversary. In the meantime the shop had to be closed for reasons of age.
