Duanmu Ci ( Chinese  端木 賜  /  端木 赐 , Pinyin Duānmù Cì , W.-G. Tuan-mu Tzʻŭ ; 520-456 BCE), also known under his zi Zigong ( 子貢  /  子贡 , Zǐgòng , Tzŭ-kung ) was a philosopher in ancient China. He was a student of Master Kong (Confucius). Zigong came from Wei State (now Puyang , Henan Province). He is said to have been very eloquent and often traveled back and forth between states. In Shiji it says about him:

「故 子貢 一 出 , 存 魯 , 亂 齊 , 破 吳 , 彊 晉 而 霸 越。 子貢 一 使 , , 使 勢 相 破 , 十年 之中 , 五 國 各有 變。」

“In one wash up, Zigong protected Lu , caused chaos in qi , broke Wu , strengthened Jin, and made Yue a hegemon. Zigong played the strategic forces [of the states] against each other in a mission, within ten years there were upheavals in all five states. "

The writing Critique of Twelve Philosophers - d. H. the sixth chapter of the book by Master Xun ( Xunzi ) - ends with a hymn of praise to the teaching of Confucius and his disciple Zigong.
