history
In the 1990s, Liechtenstein strived for a completely independent postal system. The government of the Principality decided to set up a Liechtenstein Post on December 18, 1998, the Liechtenstein Post AG was founded on November 19, 1999 and the entry in the commercial register took place in June 1999. The company took on January 1, 2000 as a completely independent service company its operation. The postal policy and the stamp issuing program build on the time of the Swiss Post in Liechtenstein.
With the exception of a few motifs, the postage stamps issued before 1996 have not been valid for postage since January 1, 2002.
On June 23, 2005, the Liechtenstein government sold 25 percent of the shares in Liechtensteinische Post AG to Swiss Post , which becomes a minority shareholder.
Philately Liechtenstein was integrated into the company on January 1, 2006.
The subsidiary LIEservice AG was founded on September 24, 2009 to provide services outside of the postal business .
On February 10, 2011, the company took over the majority stake in DIG GmbH in Linz .
On January 1, 2013, Liechtensteinische Post AG took over the majority stake in newtron AG in Dresden .
On December 31, 2015, the company sold DIG AG in Linz to the management (“management buy-out”).
On December 31, 2016, newtron AG in Dresden was sold to SupplyOn AG from Hallbergmoos .
