Zilla is Lamech's second wife in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew name צִלָּה ṣillāh is the short form of a nominal sentence name. The subject (and at the same time theophoric element ) has failed, the predicate is the noun צֵל ṣel , German 'shadow' from the root of the verbצלל ṣll , German 'shadowed / darkened' . The name itself can be translated as "(God) is shadow".

The Septuagint gives the name as Σελλα Sella , the Vulgate as Sella .

Biblical narration

Zilla is the second wife of Lamech, the son of Metuschaël, and the mother of Tubal-Kain and Naama . It is mentioned in Gen 4,19-23  EU :

“Lamech took two women; one was called Ada, the other Zilla. [...] Zilla also gave birth, namely Tubal-Kajin, who forged the tools of all ore and iron craftsmen. Tubal-Kajin's sister was Naama. "
