Abia de las Torres

In 1280 the Cistercian monastery of Las Huelgas founded the daughter monastery of Santa María de los Barrios , 60 kilometers west of Burgos (west of Osorno la Mayor), in Abia de las Torres, Comarca Tierra de Campos , province of Palencia , which existed there until 1610. The exact location is not known. There seem to be no building remains. The remains of the nuns buried in Abia were transferred to the monastery of San Andrés de Arroyo in 1718 .

Santo Domingo de la Calzada

In 1610, the adverse conditions in Abia (also: Avia) prompted the convent to move 60 kilometers east of Burgos to Santo Domingo de la Calzada and to build the new monastery Nostra Señora de la Anunciación (Latin: Annuntiationis, German: Mariae Verkendung) 1621 could be obtained. The sisters still live there today. The buildings were restored in 1979. On April 16, 2016, Abbess Sagrario Ortiz was re-elected.
