Cistercian Abbey of San Andrés de Arroyo
The Cistercian Abbey of San Andrés de Arroyo is since 1181 the monastery of Cistercian nuns in Santibanez de Ecla, province of Palencia , Castile and Leon in Spain .
history
70 kilometers northwest of Burgos and 20 kilometers southwest of Aguilar de Campoo , the Countess Mencía de Lara donated the nunnery of San Andrés de Arroyo ("Andrew by the stream") in 1181 at the site of a miraculously found image of the Apostle Andreas Sisters) is settled. Peugniez praises the beauty of the church, cloister and chapter house, where the founder and first abbess, a daughter of King Alfonso VII , is buried. The monastery had a Beatus (specimen of the Apocalypse attributed to Beatus von Liébana ), which is now in Paris and New York.
