history

In 1215 the Cistercian monastery of La Ramée was built on the river Grote Gete in Jauchelette, 16 kilometers east of Wavre (in Kerkom since 1207, today: Boutersem, existed) newly founded. In the course of the advance of the French Revolution, it was closed and demolished in 1796. The manor, which has been a listed building since 1980, has been restored and has been used for company events since 2008 is intact. The highlight of the “Patrimoine monumental exceptionnel de Wallonie” complex is a huge barn from the early 18th century with the largest slate roof in Europe and the most important wooden roof structure in Belgium. Another specialty is the "Fruiticum", a museum orchard. “La Ramée” is also used as a brand name for beer and cheese.
