Cistercian Abbey of Monte Castelo
The Cistercian Abbey of Monte Castelo ( Portuguese Abadia Cisterciense Nossa Senhora da Santa Cruz ) has been a Brazilian monastery in Santa Cruz de Monte Castelo, Paraná , Archdiocese of Maringá since 1973 .
history
The Brazilian monastery Itararé founded in 1973 as the first daughter monastery (150 kilometers northwest of Maringá ) Nossa Senhora da Santa Cruz ("Maria Heiligkreuz"). In 2008 the monastery was elevated to an abbey . Prioress Maria Antonia Zwerger was elected as the first abbess .
