The Cistercian convent of Las Bernardas (Alcalá de Henares) was 1613-2000 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Alcalá de Henares in Spain .

history

Cardinal Bernardo de Sandoval y Rojas founded the Saint Bernard Convent in 1613 in Alcalá de Henares (in today's street San Bernardo and in today's Plaza de las Bernardas square ), which existed until 2000. Then the convent belonging to the Cistercian Congregation of San Bernardo (CCSB) was dissolved. The few remaining nuns went to the Cistercian convent of San Miguel de las Dueñas . The 17th century baroque church, which has been a listed building since 1924, is known for its original elliptical floor plan and oval dome. Today the monastery complex is a museum for sacred art ("Museo del convento cisterciense de San Bernardo").
