Zitterinchen is a fairy tale ( AaTh 403). It is in Ludwig Bechstein's German Book of Fairy Tales at position 61 (1845 No. 68).

content

Abraham and Christinchen, the children of a day laborer, grow up as orphans. When Abraham goes into service with a count, he keeps a picture of his beautiful sister. The count sees this, wants to marry Christine and sends his wet nurse there. But she rushes out of the carriage into the river and brings her old cousin, who pretends not to be allowed to lift her veil. After the marriage, the count is angry, throws Abraham in prison and hangs the picture in the chimney. Christinchen appears twice a night as a white figure in chains in front of the servant and has a conversation with her little dog Shivery, which she once rescued from the water. The third time the king listens, redeems Christine and locks up the nurse instead of Abraham. The mermaids had allowed Christine to appear three times like this. This is how Shivering Rabbit, who was also cursed by a sorceress, is redeemed.

origin

If the names Abraham and Christinchen indicate their Christianity, that of the little dog Zitterinchen remains a mystery. The fairy tale is without comment on Bechstein, according to his preface to the German Fairy Tale Book of 1845, Ludwig Köhler tells it . Cf.
