The Zmajeve dečje igre (meaning: Zmajs children's games ) are a festival for children's literature that took place for the first time on June 21, 1958 in Sremska Kamenica , Serbia . It is named after Jovan Jovanović Zmaj , a well-known children's book author who lived in Sremska Kamenica in the 19th century.

Until 1969 the “Zmajeve dečje igre” was just an event, after which it was a permanent cultural institution, which in 2011 became part of the International Center for Children's and Young People's Literature.

The “Zmajeve dečje igre” give children the possibility of their own artistic activities. In addition, they bring together artists from all fields: writers, illustrators, critics, journalists, publishers, theater and visual artists, designers, musicians, multimedia artists.

In addition to the documentation center, the publishing house and a specialist magazine “Detinjstvo” (Childhood) , which deals with the theory of literature for children, the most important projects of the “Zmajeve dečje igre” are two series of events: “Junski programi” (June programs) and “Decembarski Zmajdani” (Zmaj days in December). The June programs, which took place from the start, are now probably the oldest festival for children in Europe, in which all aspects of artistic creation for children and young people are presented. Several thousand children and numerous artists from Germany and abroad take part in this five-day festival, which now has more than a hundred individual events such as literary encounters, readings, discussions about children's literature, exhibitions, theater and music performances and workshops.

The “Decembarski Zmajdani” are multi-day multimedia events that took place for the first time in 1993 on the occasion of the 160th birthday of Jovan Jovanović Zmaj. In this series of events, the birthday of Jovan Jovanović Zmaj is celebrated in a ceremony. There are numerous theater performances for children, readings of contemporary children's literature and much more. There is also a prize for the best children's novel of the year.
