Zoé Valdés

Zoé Valdés (born May 2, 1959 in Havana ) is a Cuban writer.

She studied at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Enrique José Varona , but dropped out without a degree. She then studied for over two years at the Philological Faculty of the University of Havana , but did not finish this course with a degree either. Between 1984 and 1988 she was a member of the Cuban delegation to UNESCO and of the Oficina Cultural de la Misión de Cuba in Paris . She then returned to Cuba, where she worked as a writer and screenwriter. From 1990 she was vice director of the magazine Cine Cubano . After the publication of her novel La nada cotidiana in France in 1995, which caused outrage in the Castro government, she turned her back on the island and settled in Paris, where she has lived with her third husband and daughter since then.
