Zollegstätt barracks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zollegstätt barracks existed between 1866 and 1919 in Wiener Neustadt at Wiener Straße 60.

history

The Zoll-Legstätte was originally a salt office, post office and customs office on the border between Austria and Hungary. Due to the tax exemption of the Hungarian nobility, customs duties were levied on products such as wine, wheat, meat, wool and horses until 1849 in order to prevent Austrian agricultural products from being undercut.

After the three offices were closed, the building was rededicated as a barracks and because of the small size of parts of various cavalry units of the Austro-Hungarian army used.

  • Dragoon Regiment number 2 (September 1884 - September 1892)
  • Dragoon Regiment number 4 (June 1892 - March 1902)
  • Dragoon Regiment number 5 (April 1902 - April 1908)
  • Dragoon Regiment number 15 (May 1908 - March 1912)

With the end of the First World War , the military use of the barracks at Wiener Strasse 60 also ended. In 1925 it officially became the property of the City of Wiener Neustadt. Today there are residential complexes there.
