The Zoo de la Palmyre is a zoological garden near Royan on the French Atlantic coast. The zoo is around 18 hectares and is one of the most popular zoos in France with around 700,000 visitors a year.
The Zoo de la Palmyre is home to more than 1,600 animals, including numerous endangered species such as Siberian tigers , balistars , saber antelopes and white rhinos . The zoo is also known for its numerous species of monkeys.
The zoo was opened by Claude Caillé in 1966. The zoo received numerous prizes and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums as well as its European counterpart EAZA .
