Zorch was the first purely electronic synthesizer group from England .

They were the first band to play exclusively with synthesizers . The name refers to traveling at the speed of light.

history

Zorch was founded in 1973 by Howard Scarr (Gwyo Zepix), Basil Brooks and Niel Thorpe (Neil E Norml). From 1975 Zorch only existed as a duo (Scarr and Brooks). They performed at various music festivals, including a. Windsor '74, Meagan Fayre '75 and Stonehenge '74 & '75.

Zorch broke up in 1976 by mutual agreement. Basil Brooks joined the Steve Hillage band and was responsible for the sound effects of the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy stage shows. Howard Scarr joined Skywhale , later moved to Germany and played in various bands. In 2000 Howard returned to the UK to join the reunited keyboard and synthesizer band Gong .

In 2000, Zorch reunited and had a number of appearances in the UK including at the Hackney Empire Theater in London with Gong and at two Tribe of Frog festivals in Bristol . In 2001 they played in Glastonbury Assembly Rooms and recorded the live album Glastonbury Live .

In November 2006 Zorch played live at the Gong Unconvention Festival.
