access data

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Access data is information that is kept secret and consists of a user ID and a password / PIN . This pair is called an access code . With correct access data, a user receives a certain access authorization.

For the most part, this concerns security software for computer networks , operating systems and programs; this is intended to ensure information security. Most frequently, access data are required when a computer is switched on ( user management via the operating system ) for websites where a user is registered or for DSL routers and WLAN .

Exception: in modern fingerprint and iris scanning devices, the user ID and the password are one and the same (namely the individual biometrics of a finger or an iris ).

When a request for access is made, a query is made with the database. If the data in the database is identical to the submitted access data, access is granted.

Access data is requested not only in IT systems, but also in some electronically protected doors ( access control ). In most cases, no user ID is required, but an authorization that is stored in an RFID or transponder .

Often access data is hacked , e.g. B. in July 2017: 500 million records.
