Zughrughascheni ( Georgian წუღრუღაშენი ) is a Georgian Orthodox church in the Georgian region of Niederkartlien in the municipality of Bolnissi , about two kilometers from Bolnissi Sioni on the right bank of the Bolnissiszqali River . An inscription names King Giorgi and the builder of the church Hasan, son of Arsenic . According to the researcher Renée Schmerling, the king Giorgi Giorgi IV mentioned in the inscription is Lascha , according to which the church was built between 1212 and 1222.
The Zughrughascheni Church is stylistically similar to the churches from the 12th – 13th centuries. Century, so Betania , Kwatachewi , Pitareti . But it is a bit smaller and has a higher dome. The floor plan of the building is rectangular. The apse is flanked by two two-story side rooms. The church is richly decorated with Georgian traditional ornaments , especially on the dome .
