The Zugspitz-Gletscherbahn is a 1000-meter-long aerial cableway up to the Zugspitze that went into operation in 1992 . It connects the Zugspitzplatt directly with the 360 m higher summit. Since the mountain station of the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn was relocated from the Schneefernerhaus to the Platt, the Schneefernerhaus and the old cable cars that went from there to the Platt ( slope and old glacier cable car ) and up to the summit (summit cable car ) have lost their importance.

The railway operated by the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG is designed as an aerial tramway with two suspension cables each and has no supports. Their suspension ropes have a diameter of 50 mm, their traction rope 34 mm in diameter. It is powered by two motors, each with an output of 210 kW, in the valley station. The cabins of the Zugspitz-Gletscherbahn have a capacity of 100 people, the total transport capacity of 1000 people per hour and direction.

The lift was built by the South Tyrolean company Hölzl Seilbahnbau .
