Zuhr (prayer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The listening prayer ( Arabic صلاة الظهر, ṣalāt aẓ-ẓuhr ) is one of the five mandatory prayers in Islam . It is the second prayer of the day and takes place at noon after the sun has passed its zenith .

Prayer time

The time for the listening prayer begins when the zenith is crossed and ends with the beginning of the prayer time for the Asr prayer . Since the different schools of law determine the beginning of the Asr prayer differently, there is a fixed start time for this prayer, but a different end time. As with the other mandatory prayers, it is best to offer the prayer at the beginning of prayer time.

composition

The listening prayer consists of four rakʿa sunna , followed by four rakʿa fard and then two rakʿa sunna. The listening prayer is prayed softly in the congregation as a community prayer, that is, the recitation of the Koran is not audible, only the expressions that signal the course of the prayer are audible.

When traveling it is allowed to omit the Sunna parts and to shorten the Fard prayer to half, i.e. two rakʿa.

Friday prayer

On Friday, the common listening prayer is replaced by Friday prayer . The collective Friday prayer, which is mandatory for male adult Muslims, is usually held in a mosque and begins with a sermon ( chutba ) followed by two raka 'fard prayer with audible recitation of the Koran. However, if the prayer is performed alone or at home (mostly applies to women, as Friday prayer is not compulsory for them), it usually takes place as a listening prayer.
