Guild dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guild dance is called a dance of a craftsperson's guild .

In the Middle Ages , craftsmanship was shaped by guilds , corporations that represented the common interests of a profession. In some cases, in addition to rules for social, business and religious life and fixed costumes and coats of arms, a guild's cultural repertoire also included its own dances.

The guild dances were danced on traditional guild events to honor the respective craft, but also to honor people or on happy occasions such as weddings.

Examples of guild dances are the knife dance and the torch dance .
