Tongue diagnostics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In addition to the detailed anamnesis and pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis is an important component in the diagnosis of functional disorders and diseases in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This is an alternative medical diagnostic procedure, which does not correspond to the generally recognized knowledge of medicine and pathophysiology . There is no scientific proof of the validity of this diagnostic procedure.

Representation of the functional circles on the tongue (TCM)

When considering the tongue in Chinese tongue diagnostics, the following four parameters are examined:

  1. Size of the tongue : The size of the tongue - in relation to the oral cavity - should be able to provide information about the overall condition of the body structure. (Body yin)
  2. Color of the tongue body : Here the tongue should be able to provide a special view of the blood flow in the body, i.e. the state of the xue . (calor / algor)
  3. Color and texture of the surface: This is where processes that take place on the surface of the body should be shown. (extima / intima)
  4. Topological peculiarities of the tongue : Based on a body representation on the tongue, it should be possible to obtain information about the condition of individual functional circuits (orbes) through special changes.
