Zurlo (measure of weight)
The Zurlo , even Surlo or Zuelo , was a Syrian of Mass. Since the measure depended on the Rottolo , the Zurlo had a variable value depending on the place and goods.
In Aleppo in Syria the Rottolo had
- for cotton , grain 720 drachmas and weighed 2279 ¾ grams
- for Syrian silk 700 drachmas, which corresponded to 2216½ grams
- for Persian silk 680 drachmas, or 2153 grams
in Damascus
- for copper, brass, wire 600 drachmas with 1900 grams
- 1 rottoli = 720 drachmas = 2.2803 kilograms
- 1 zurlo = 27.5 rottoli with 720 drachmas each = 62,692 grams
