tasks

When the Zweckverband was founded in 2006, an action program was drawn up that was critically reviewed in 2012 and adapted to current developments and challenges. The action program forms the basis for the main areas of work in the association. The tasks of the Zweckverband include:

  • the bundling of communal interests and the assumption of shared responsibility for the region.
  • the preservation of the monuments characteristic of the cultural landscape and the preservation of the historical townscape. For vacant, listed castles, buildings or other witnesses of the past, new usage concepts need to be developed.
  • the safeguarding and further development of green, water, forest, and other areas to be kept free from development with supra-local importance for recreation and for maintaining a balanced natural environment (landscape protection). The preservation and recultivation of vineyards is part of these efforts.
  • the development, promotion and marketing of an attractive tourist infrastructure in the association area. The improvement of equipment and service in the hotel and catering sector, the development of the Loreley plateau, as well as the development of a corporate identity with a uniform wayfinding, signage and map system are further topics.
  • the achievement of an upgrading of the cities and municipalities to improve the quality of living. In addition to noise reduction, the upgrading of the bank areas and the promenades in order to bring the cities and municipalities closer to the water are important.

Structure and organization

The association assembly is the decisive body of the association. All members of the association meeting meet twice a year and decide on the budget statutes and the fields of action. The board of the Zweckverband is formed by Bertram Fleck , the district administrator of the Rhein-Hunsrück district and the district councilor Karl Ottes for the Rheingau-Taunus district. Since the seat of the Zweckverband is in Sankt Goarshausen , the office that manages the day-to-day business of the Zweckverband is also located there.
