Second Olympian War

The Second Olympian War took place between 349 and 348/47 BC. On the Chalkidike peninsula in northern Greece (today's administrative region of Central Macedonia ). The Kingdom of Macedonia under King Philip II was opposed to the Chalkidik Bund under the leadership of the city of Olynthus (os). The war ended with the conquest and subsequent complete destruction of the city of Olynth in 348 BC. BC by Philip II, after he had already conquered the other cities of the Chalcidic League before the fall of Olynthos. This war achieved historical fame through the Olympic speeches of the Athenian politician Demosthenes , who with these speeches obtained military support from Athens for Olynthus and the Chalcidian League in opposition to Philip II of Macedonia and his expansion policy. Philip's victory in the Second Olynthian War was an important stopover in the expansion of the power and rule of the Kingdom of Macedonia over all of Greece.
