Intermediate lining

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The intermediate lining is a mostly soft layer of material within a garment, which is incorporated between the outer material and the normal lining.

use

  • An intermediate lining is sewn into outer clothing to increase the dimensional stability between the fabric and the actual lining or, as a variant, used as an iron-on insert .
  • In the home furnishing sector, interlining is used for curtains and not only improves the insulation in a room, but also absorbs daylight and serves to protect against noise. It also makes a curtain look more luxurious because the folds fall softer. When used in living spaces, the intermediate linings are flame-retardant.
  • In shoe manufacture, intermediate linings are used for stiffening and padding .
  • Interlining is also in the roof inner lining of automobiles used. According to the vehicle manufacturer, this additional layer should not only reduce heat loss but also the noise level in the vehicle by up to 50%.
