Zwischenurstromtal
As Zwischenurstromtal or Urstromtalung a is the Urstromtal similar discharge path of melt waters of the Scandinavian ice sheet referred to, which during the ice age glacial originated the Northern Central Europe. Mostly they represent a connection between two (main) glacial valleys . The glacial valleys were very likely only briefly flowed through by meltwater when the neighboring main valleys were not yet fully developed.
Intermediate glacial valleys have all the characteristics of a glacial valley, but mostly run in different directions or parallel to the large glacial valleys. The most important difference to the large main valleys is the lack of an associated sander and a terminal moraine . The model of the Glacial Series can only be used to a limited extent on the interstate valleys. A clear reconstruction of the discharge phases in the glacial valleys during the individual ice ages is usually not possible with sufficient accuracy. The height differences between the valleys that can be used for reconstruction are often very small or completely absent.
Occasionally, Zwischenurstromtäler are also referred to as glacial valley, such as B. the Nuthe glacial valley or the Potsdam glacial valley. Since all of these drainage routes (more than a dozen) would then have to be called glacial valley, the term glacial valley should only be limited to the large main valleys. In addition, these small valleys lack the reference to a terminal moraine as an important criterion for a glacial valley.
In terms of the system, the Zwischenurstromtal (like the glacial valley ) must be strictly separated from the meltwater channels. While the former are created by the runoff of the melt water in front of the ice edge and mostly run parallel to the ice edge from east to west, channels are created by the melt water flowing under the inland ice and mostly run from north to south.
The glacial valleys are widespread in the entire Scandinavian glaciation area of northern Central Europe. There is an accumulation in the area between the Elbe (north of Magdeburg to Havelberg ) in the west and Berlin in the east and between the Berlin Urstromtal and the Baruther Urstromtal south of Berlin.
The somewhat cumbersome term `` Zwischenurstromtal '' has not caught on in the specialist literature. There they are referred to as glacial valley or neutrally as (meltwater) runoff.
