ZynAddSubFX is a free polyphonic and multitimbral software synthesizer for GNU / Linux , macOS and Windows . It is controlled via MIDI . The software uses additive , subtractive and Fourier sound synthesis to generate the sound . Various classic effects can also be used. ZynAddSubFX enables micro-intervals with up to 128 notes per octave and the simulation of alternative moods . Under Linux, ZynAddSubFX is compatible with the JACK sound server.

Since its first release in 2002, ZynAddSubFX has been developed by Paul Nasca.
