Australian Defense Force Academy

The Australian Defense Force Academy (ADFA) is a military academy in Australia . It is located in the capital Canberra in the Campbell district. It trains prospective officers of the Australian Defense Force (ADF) (consisting of the Royal Australian Navy , the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force ) militarily and academically. It also offers postgraduate courses for civilians, senior ADF members, and government officials. The ADFA is affiliated with the University of New South Wales , which has academic responsibility. ADFA graduates receive the rank of Officer Cadet (Army and Air Force) or Midshipman (Navy).

In 1977 the Australian government decided to close the academies of the individual branches of the armed forces and to merge them to form the ADFA. In 1981 a collaboration agreement was signed with the University of New South Wales. The ADFA opened in 1986 .
