The constituency of Kassel (constituency 168) is a Bundestag constituency in Hesse . The constituency includes the city of Kassel as well as the cities and communities of Ahnatal , Espenau , Fuldabrück , Fuldatal , Helsa , Kaufungen , Lohfelden , Nieste , Niestetal , Söhrewald and Vellmar from the Kassel district . Since 1949, the constituency has always been won by the direct candidates of the SPD .

By-election in 1951

As a result of the resignation of the Bundestag member Georg-August Zinn, a by-election in the then Bundestag constituency II (Kassel-Stadt and Kassel-Land) was necessary due to § 15 of the electoral law for the 1st Bundestag and the 1st Federal Assembly of the Federal Republic of Germany. This took place on March 11, 1951 by order of the Hessian state returning officer.
