From May to August 2020, a Ferris wheel stood in Bremerhaven between the New Harbor, the Klimahaus, the Sail City high-rise and Willy-Brandt-Platz.

On March 13th, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen decreed a state-wide school closure from March 16th. Emergency care was subsequently set up for children whose parents work in systemically important professions.

From March 17, 2020, the state of Bremen prohibited the operation of leisure, entertainment, sports and tourism facilities as well as retail stores that do not sell everyday goods and issued a special requirement for those returning from the risk areas. As of March 18, 2020, visits to clinics and hospitals have been restricted. On March 20, the obligation to segregate infected people and their contact persons (applicable to employees in the public sector, health care and critical infrastructure) was announced, affected people had to go to quarantine at home, and the provision of non-urgent health services was prohibited. From March 24, 2020, the ban on contact in Bremen applied.

As the last federal state, Bremen announced on April 22, 2020 that it would introduce a mask requirement from April 27. The mask requirement was officially decided by the Bremen state government on April 24th. On April 21, the Bremen CDU called for a mask requirement: "A mask requirement in public places can help to further raise awareness and not succumb to the appearance of normality." The health senator Claudia Bernhard expressed herself skeptical about the mask requirement . Environment Senator Maike Schaefer was also an opponent of the mask requirement . Teacher representatives from Bremen also called for a mask to be used in schools.

With effect from April 25, 2020, mass sports facilities were again allowed to be opened in the state of Bremen , which ensure that the athletes keep the necessary distance from one another. In addition to water sports and tennis facilities, this also includes golf clubs. Since Bremen allowed the practice of "distance sports" again relatively early, some parts of playgrounds (located in the state of Bremen) were temporarily allowed to be used, while others (in the state of Lower Saxony ) were not.
