The Campeonato Sudamericano of 1924 was the eighth game of the South American continental football championship and took place for the third time in Uruguay from October 12 to November 2. This tournament was hosted by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol . Paraguay did not have sufficient infrastructure in their own country and therefore relocated the games to Uruguay, but took over the organization anyway. Again only four countries took part in this football tournament, as Brazil did without it this year .

As before, the championship was held in the league system (everyone against everyone). If there was a tie in first place, a playoff was planned. All games were played in the capital Montevideo in Parque Central .

Uruguay became South American champion in 1924 only three months after the brilliant Olympic victory for the fifth time.

Uruguay was his great form from the Olympic tournament in Preserve Paris and win the "Copa" for the fifth time. After two very confident performances against Chile (5: 0) and Paraguay (3: 1), the goal machine of the "Urus" striker Pedro Petrone only stalled against arch rivals Argentina. In the end, however, the 0-0 win was enough for the Olympic champion to win the tournament. The Uruguayans succeeded without their superstar José Leandro Andrade. Although he was in the Uruguayan squad, he did not take part in any of the three games. The role of Andrades as a big star was taken over by Pedro Petrone. The top scorer of the Olympic football tournament scored the most goals in this tournament and was also named the best player.

Argentina convinced in this tournament with an outstanding defensive performance. The team remained clean in all three games. Instead, the other flagship horse of Argentine football, the storm, disappointed. The team only scored two goals in the course of the tournament. It was the storm weakness, especially in the 0-0 draw against Paraguay, that ultimately prevented the Argentines from achieving greater success.

Paraguay finished third again in the end. A smooth 3-1 defeat against Uruguay prematurely put an end to all hopes for the first tournament victory that had sprung up after the 0-0 kick-off against Argentina. In the end, Paraguay was able to relegate the Chileans to fourth place. Perhaps the Paraguayans would have been more successful if their association had not only organized this tournament, but also held it in their own country.

Chile had to realize once again at this tournament that it was clearly inferior to the other participants in the "Copa". Three clear defeats in three games really spoke a clear language here. The Chileans decided immediately not to start the next "Copa".
