The China Open 2014 was a snooker tournament of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2013/14 season . It was held from March 31 to April 6, 2014 at Peking University in Beijing . The defending champion was the Australian Neil Robertson . He reached the final again, but was defeated there this year with 5:10 to the Chinese Ding Junhui , who was able to secure the title for the second time after his career breakthrough in 2005. For Ding it was the fifth tournament victory this season, with which he set the record previously held by Stephen Hendry .

The wildcard round games took place in Beijing on March 31, 2014 . In contrast to previous years, there were only four wildcards for local amateurs instead of eight.

Final round
Due to the change in the qualification mode of the Snooker Main Tour, there was also a change in the process. After a qualifying round and the four wildcard games, the main tournament began with the round of 64 and not with 32 players as in previous years.

qualification
The qualifiers took place from February 16-18, 2014 at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester . All games were played in best-of-9 mode. As in the other tournaments of the Main Tour, there was only one qualifying round from this season in which all 64 players were determined who could then travel to Beijing.

Century breaks
Final round
In the 63 games of the main round, a total of 22 century breaks were achieved, nine fewer than in the previous year. The winner Ding Junhui was the only one to achieve three times more than 100 points in one shot, two of them in the final.

Qualifying round
The 64 qualifying games brought 22 Centurys. Three players scored two hundred breaks each, including Welsh Duane Jones , who was the only one of the eight amateurs to make it into the main tournament.
